It took everything I had not to title this post Snow Day 2: Electric Boogaloo, but I didn’t, because… I don’t know… maturity? Yeah, probably not.
So, Snow Day 1 was lovely. It was a nice little midweek vacation day surprise meant for reading and relaxing. Just enough snow to keep you inside, but nothing threatening. A perfect little break.
Snow Day 2, not quite so much fun. There’s ice and wind and more snow and officials telling you to “stay indoors.” Snow Day 2 kind of makes me want to pull my hair out. (And, yes, I know I’m a wuss. I understand many other places have real snow problems. Hence, my decision to not live in one of them.) Snow Day 2 calls for something a little stronger than cookies. For the occasion, I give you:
Snow Day Blueberry Booze
Just to clarify: I don’t really know anything about making drinks. I put these things together in a shaker and they tasted good, so I’m going with it.

The gang’s all here!
What you’ll need:
- 1 oz. simple syrup (some drink-knowledgeable folks make their own, I just bought mine in a bottle at Kroger for $1.99)
- 2 oz. blueberry wine
- 1 oz. rum
- sugar
- ice
- some sort of glass vessel to drink from
What you’ll do:
Combine the simple syrup, wine and rum in a shaker with ice. Slosh it around until it’s nice and cold. Wet the rim of your glass and dip it in the sugar. Strain your drink into the glass. Have a couple of these. Playing in the snow might actually sound fun now.
And if you’re feeling guilty about enjoying a cocktail, just remember my cartoon hero Linda Belcher’s wise words: “Mommy doesn’t get drunk, she just has fun.”
