As far as I’m concerned “Tues” is a four letter word, but not one of the fun ones. (I know it’s not an actual word, but just go with me here). Monday gets the bad reputation, but we all know Tuesday is just the worst. At least with Monday you’ve had a Sunday to rest and the distraction of getting things started for the week. Tuesday is just there. Not the start to anything, not the end of anything. It’s not even the damn middle.
I should note that Tuesday is the day the newspaper I work at prints and I like to spend the entire day worrying about all the things that could go wrong in the process. So this could be responsible for all my Tuesday hating. Nah, Tuesday’s just horrible.
So in my effort to forget that it’s Tuesday yet again, I’m attempting to focus on things that have recently brought me some enjoyment. Here goes.
Some of it’s truly new, some just new to me, but it’s all good stuff.
Iggy Pop & Josh Homme, Post Pop Depression. I mentioned this one when they had only released one song from it, now we’re up to four and I swear each one’s better than the last. I can’t wait for the rest.
Sturgill Simpson, A Sailor’s Guide to Earth. Only one song in, but I already love it so, so much.
Elle King, Love Stuff. I completely missed this when it came out last year. Probably because I only turn on actual radio stations in time of true desperation, but it’s great. Rock, country and a little pop all rolled into one.
Nikki Lane, All or Nothin’. It’s been out for a couple of years and should be a lot better known by this point. Just a good actual country album.
Hyperbole and a Half, Allie Brosh
This is a book I had been meaning to read forever and just hadn’t. I’m not sure why. Perhaps stupidity. It finally came up on my library check-out list, I read it in a day and half and then immediately ordered my own copy from Amazon so I can keep it at my side at all times. It’s so good and funny and just the best. Go read it. Now. I need more people to talk about it with. (Go to hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com while you wait for your copy to arrive.)
We Watch Wrestling
If Slumber Party with Alie and Georgia is my podcast surrogate girl friend time, then We Watch Wrestling is my podcast surrogate guy friend time. My husband and I discuss wrestling almost constantly, but this fills that 10-to-15 commute time when my brain might try to actually eek out other thoughts. We can’t have that. Plus, it’s hilarious.
Daylight Saving Time
Yes, I despise losing the hour of sleep and it will take me a week to get caught up and rejoin the land of the living. However, when I come out of the fog I will realize that it’s still daylight at 7 p.m. and I adore that. I have time to actually do things like exercise and go outside instead of coming home and immediately wanting to go to bed and it’s lovely.
Honorable Mention: Gold nail polish. (Hat tip to Slumber Party for this one too.)
And now another horrible Tuesday is practically over and I can relax. Until next week anyway.
